I have been drawing all my life. When other kids were playing sport or partying at weekends I was painting, sketching and drawing, trying to improve and perfect a skill that can never be perfected completely. Not much has changed since then.

I formally studied art much later in life than I would suppose is usual when I attended a college course in animation, being subjected for the first time to life drawing classes. I have been using what I learned there to work on my love of portraits and the human figure in general.

My choice of medium tends to shift radically depending on the result I desire, but I always drift back to pencils in the end, these days augmented with charcoal, ink, paint (both traditional and digital) and employ all sorts of tools to utilise them, lately I have been favouring the airbrush and old style dip pens.

When working on a commission, the more information I get the better for the client. But then there is a lot of fun to be had working out a fully realised image from hints and ideas that a client has. There is a lot to be said for getting free reign over a project and of course a lot to be said for tight control and strict deadlines, each has its pros and cons, altogether I’m not too bothered, as long as I get to draw things.
